A Song From the Past

My aunt had played piano beautifully, but for the past decade she wouldn’t touch the keys. Dementia limited her attention span, so getting her interested in anything has been challenging for her—and for us. But Wayne, one of her Artis Life Enrichment Assistants, never gave up. Since she would never come over to the piano, Wayne decided to bring the piano to her! He rolled it over, started tapping the keys and spoke to her about her years of playing. Within minutes, she slowly began to play beautiful music—from memory! Everyone was astonished. Now she eagerly plays with another resident for audiences at Artis. Our family is overjoyed!
